Program Options for Working with Middle School Children

Elementary Education Program

ELED FlyerWe have elementary-based programs in Bellingham, Everett, Seattle, and Bremerton. The program in Bellingham leads to teacher certification for grades K-8 with over twenty subject area major options. The programs in Everett, Seattle, and Bremerton also lead to teacher certification for grades K-8 with an accompanying major in Special Education. At the elementary level, teachers work with children on emerging/developing academic and social/emotional development in daily and long-range lessons and activities aligned to state standards. Candidates gain experiences in various grade levels across elementary schools and upon completion will want to consider employment in grades K-5 or 6* in public and private schools. *Candidates who desire to work at the middle school or junior high level will need to meet either Highly Qualified status or earn an additional subject area endorsement.

Secondary Education Program

SEC FlyerThis program leads to teacher certification for either grades 5-12 or P-12 depending on the subject area. At the middle level, teachers work with children in a specific subject area such as English, Art, Science, Social Studies, PE, Art, etc. in daily and long-range lessons and activities aligned to state standards. Depending on their subject area, candidates in this program gain experiences in various grade levels and upon completion will want to consider employment in middle and high school grades* in their subject/endorsement area in public and private schools. *Only Dance, Fitness/Health (PE), Modern/Classical Languages, Music, Theatre Arts, and Visual Arts lead to the P-12 endorsement that would allow for teaching at the elementary level.

This program includes undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and Masters in Teaching options.

Special Education Programs

Special Education Dual Endorsement in Elementary Education

SPED FlyerThis program leads to teacher certification in Special Education P-12 AND Elementary Education K-8. Upon completion, candidates are qualified to teach in either field with children who are identified as at-risk for developmental delay or other disabilities, often in a pull-out supportive role for their academic subjects and as a general education teacher at the elementary school level.

The program includes undergraduate and post-baccalaureate options.

Special Education Program P-12

The P-12 Special Education Program leads to teacher certification that qualifies teachers to work with children who are identified as at-risk for developmental delay or other disabilities, often in a pull-out supportive role for their academic subjects or consultation role with classroom teachers. *Some 6-12 positions may require an additional subject area endorsement.

The program includes undergraduate and post-baccalaureate options.
