Outside of classes, there are so many opportunities to meet people, learn, and make new friends! Let's learn about some of these opportunities from Zion, one of our college mentors:

Multicultural Center & Student Union

The Multicultural Center is one of the newest spaces on campus. Home to the Ethnic Student Center, LGBTQ+ Center, and other groups that build community and support for students of those identities.

The Viking Union also houses the Associated Students, the governmental student body for Western Washington University. Positions for student leadership are available each year. The Associated Students group also coordinates more than 250 student club groups that focus on common interests within students. The list is long, but here are a few of the student-led clubs:

· African Caribbean Club

· Quidditch Club

· A Capella Club

· AIYA! Anime Club

· Cybersecurity Club

· Diversity in Geoscience Club

· Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx

· Native American Student Association

· T.A.G. Team for Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Students

You can explore all of the clubs at WWU here. If you can’t find the club you want, you can always make one too!

Western Athletics

Some college students compete in university level athletics during their time at college. Athletics scholarships can be a great way to pay for college, and you can play your favorite sport while learning too. University sporting events can be a fun way to get to know others as well! Many students may not be interested in competing at the university level, but still want to stay active and play for fun. The Campus Recreation Center is a great place for students to build strength and endurance and have fun too!

On Campus Housing

North campus dorm buildings

Many colleges and universities have on-campus housing, where students live while they study. At Western Washington University, on-campus housing is not required, but many students choose to so that they can meet new friends and be closer to campus life. Learn more about what living on-campus is like in these two videos:

Student Services

A university also includes many other offices focused on supporting students in their academic, health and professional goals. The Scholarship and Financial Aid Offices can help with college costs, the peer tutors can help with class work at the Tutoring Center, the Counseling Center can provide trained counselors to talk with at any time, and the Career Services Center can help you prepare for a job!
