Multilingual Elementary Education Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements
We request prospective candidates to contact us for more information about the program and for pre-application advising. Please send copies of unofficial transcripts as soon as possible to determine eligibility. Some applicants may need to complete additional coursework prior to application. We are happy to work with you as you take any coursework needed to become eligible.
To be considered for this program, candidates must meet the following:
- A Direct Transfer Agreement Associate Degree (DTA-AA) from a Washington State community college, a qualifying bachelor’s degree, or satisfaction of Western Washington University’s General University Requirements (GURs). See notes below on meeting this requirement:
- If you do not currently have a qualifying degree, a GUR evaluation will be required to determine if you will need more coursework prior to being eligible
- Completion of AAS-T, BAS, applied, or other technical degree does not necessarily meet this requirement
- If you have not yet met this requirement, completing a DTA-AA at a local community college is generally the fastest and least expensive option for transfer students
- We are happy to advise through this process
- Minimum grade point average of 2.75 (cumulative or last 45+ graded credits)
- Completion of the Basic Skills Requirement. This may be met by: a) Taking the WEST-B exams, b) SAT scores, c) ACT scores. Alternate tests may be accepted from out-of-state applicants. There is no minimum score requirement for admission.
- WEST-B voucher may be available for those who qualify. See instructions at bottom of Basic Skills Requirement page (linked above).

Review of applications will begin after the priority deadline (March 1) and continue through spring quarter or until the cohort limits are met. Meeting the admission requirements above makes applicants eligible for admission, but does not guarantee admission. Applicants who meet all criteria are further evaluated by the program admission committee to determine the most qualified applicants; interviews may be conducted as part of the evaluation process.
Applicants must meet the admission requirements for Woodring College of Education and Western Washington University. Preference is given to bilingual candidates employed and referred by partner districts. We are here to support you!
