Multilingual Education (MLE) Programs
Welcome! We are so glad you are interested in multilingual education. The MLE department has many programs to fit your individual needs. All of the below programs give individuals the opportunity to complete the add-on ELL and/or BE endorsement(s). Click any program title to learn more and connect with an advisor!
Some of the included programs are majors, minors, or complete stand-alone programs. The MLE department operates out of three sites: Bellingham, Renton, and Everett. When looking through programs be sure to consider which site you are also interested in because many programs are specific to individual sites.
BTF Everett
A program for employees in Snohomish and Skagit counties leading to initial teacher licensure with endorsements in K-8 Elementary Education and P-12 English Language Learners (ELL) and/or P-12 Bilingual Education (BE).
Master in Teaching, Renton
The Master in Teaching (MiT) with emphasis in Multilingual Education program is designed for candidates who wish to complete a master’s degree with recommendation for Washington State Residency Certification to teach at the secondary level (middle and high school) and gain an endorsement in multilingual and/or bilingual education. This program is specific to initial certification only.
BTF Renton
A program for employees in Highline, Kent, Federal Way, Tukwila, Renton, or Auburn school districts leading to initial teacher licensure with endorsements in K-8 Elementary Education and P-12 English Language Learners (ELL) or P-12 Bilingual Education (BE).
ELL/BE Endorsement
This program is for teachers looking to gain the endorsement in English Language Learners (ELL) or Bilingual Education (BE). This program is open to current students admitted to a Woodring teacher education program or certificated teachers.
Multilingual Special Education
A program for Kent, Highline, Auburn, Renton, Tukwila, and Federal way school employees to gain initial licensure in P-12 Special Education and P-12 English Language Learners (ELL) and/or P-12 Bilingual Education (BE) endorsements.
Multilingual Education Minor
The Multilingual Education Minor is available to undergraduate students in the ELL/BE Endorsement program. It includes 25 credits of MLE coursework and 3+ credits of approved coursework demonstrating study of another culture for students in teacher certification programs.

English w/ Multilingual Teaching emphasis, BA
The English – Multilingual Education Emphasis with Teaching Endorsement Options major focuses on the study of language, linguistics, and literacy, literatures in historical and cultural, films studies and media, composition and rhetoric, and creative writing. Majors take a range of courses in the teaching of English language arts and Multilingual Education. These courses provide a solid foundation for someone interested in teaching English at the secondary level or teaching ELL/Bilingual Education at the P-12 level.
