******COVID-19 SPRING QUARTER CALENDAR UPDATE******

Thanks for your flexibility and creative problem solving related to the support of our interns during this unusual quarter! We have adjusted the midterm and final deadlines slightly to account for the COVID-related disruption to the quarter. (ELED/EALT, Canvas includes these new deadlines.)

Spring quarter deadlines:

  • Midterm: Friday, May 8th (okay to submit any time that week)
  • Final, PGP & self-reflection: Wednesday, June 10th

Due to the disruption of spring quarter, we have extended the due date for all final documents in order to allow more time for evidence collection. This deadline extension means we will have a short amount of time to verify receipt of all documents before grades are due. As such, please understand that we cannot extend this deadline any further.

Also, it will be extremely helpful to us if you ensure the following:

  • FINAL: all criteria are marked AND there are signatures from all parties
  • PGP: all sections are complete AND student and supervisor have signed AND related student self-reflection is complete (see final bullet)
  • SELF-REFLECTION:
    • BH & TEOP SPED/ELED: please remember to submit evidence grid to document student self-reflection
    • ELED/EALT: student self-reflection occurs as part of final evaluation

Thank you for accommodating these schedule changes and for your help ensuring the quarter wraps up smoothly. We appreciate all of you so much!

The State of Washington requires all student teachers to complete a Professional Growth Plan. This is a state certification requirement and needs to be completed at the end of your first full-time internship. The plan reflects your goal(s) for your first year of contracted teaching.

  1. Complete a Professional Growth Plan Self-Reflection for your department. This form identifies career-level benchmarks for the 13 criteria housed within three standards: Effective Teaching, Professional Development, and Teaching as a Profession. The self-assessment should guide you in the process of selecting 1-3 goals. (Bellingham campus Elementary Education students will self-reflect using the form provided by the program.)
  2. Use the Professional Growth Plan Template to expand on your goal(s). Include activities, rationale, possible resources, and a timeline with deadlines. Since you will be completing this plan prior to starting your contracted professional career, you may need to keep the possible resources and timeline general enough to align to an anticipated hire date.

  3. Review, print, and give a copy to your UIC. (Both you and your UIC will sign the form). Remember, this is a certification requirement and failure to submit a completed plan will delay your certification.
