Scholarships Open to Students in any Teacher Education Program

  • Open to any student pursuing a career as a teacher.

Information on donors

  • Open to any student enrolled in an educator preparation program at WWU.
  • Post-bacs and graduate students are eligible.
  • Amount: Four awards of $1800 each.
  • One in each of the following departments: elementary, secondary, special education, and human services.
  • Applicants must be a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in a Woodring program in Bellingham.  
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5.
  • Financial need is not a consideration.
  • Post-bac, graduate and alt-route students are NOT eligible.
  • Award: $500
  • Open to anyone pursuing a career in teacher education. 
  • Must have financial need (please submit a statement of financial need).
  • No other criteria.
  • Post-Bac and graduate students are eligible.

Preference is made to applicants who demonstrate, in descending order of priority:

  • Students pursuing a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) major;
  • Students enrolled as a Compass 2 Campus mentor, or in the Maestros para el Pueblo program
  • Students enrolled in a Woodring-based program, including but not limited to: Masters in Teaching, Secondary Education undergraduate or post-bac, Elementary Education program, or the Education and Social Justice Minor
  • And, whenever possible, to students demonstrating financial need
  • Open to students in the Woodring College of Education who are perceived to become effective classroom teachers.
  • Recipients shall have a sense of service through active involvement as volunteers to the health of the communities in which they live. 
  • Post-Bac and graduate students are eligible.
  • For students in Woodring College of Education who are pursuing a degree or certificate in teacher education.  
  • Post-bac and graduate students are eligible.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a Woodring College teacher preparation program
  • Must demonstrate a need for financial assistance (please submit a statement of financial need).
  • Post-Bac and graduate students are eligible.
  • Applicants must be admitted to the elementary or special education program who are preparing to earn an endorsement in early childhood or early childhood special education.
  • No minimum GPA is required. *
  • Please include a paragraph in your essay on how you would address the specific interests and needs of preschool and primary students.
  • Post-Bac students are eligible.
  • Awarded to students admitted to the Woodring College of Education, who have demonstrated academic performance and perceived effectiveness as a classroom teacher.
  • Graduate students are eligible
  • Amount: One award of $300
  • Applicants must be undergraduates enrolled in a teacher education program with academic standing as a junior or senior for the academic year of the award.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative 3.3 grade point average.
  • Post-Bac students are NOT eligible.

Amount: $5,000 per year, may be renewed each year as long as the student is meeting program requirements for up to four years.

Applicants:

  • must have participated in the Maestros Para el Pueblo program at Skagit Valley College
  • must intend to enroll in or be admitted to a teacher education program. 
  • must have financial need.

This off-campus housing scholarship honors the memory of educator Marilyn F. Nold. The selected recipient will receive three quarters of rent free housing in a one bedroom unit in the New England Apartments (2516-2536 Douglas Ave.) beginning in September of the upcoming academic year. The scholarship is generously offered in cooperation with Madrona Bay Real Estate Investments.  Recipients must sign and comply with a private lease agreement.

  • This scholarship is open to undergraduates in teacher education, who are beginning their internship year of college at Western Washington University.
  • Applicants must be admitted to the Woodring College of Education.
  • Demonstrated financial need is a factor in considering the recipient of this award. (Please submit a statement of financial need).
  • Post-Bacs and graduate students are NOT eligible.
  • To provide support for students in Woodring College of Education who will be applying to or are enrolled in a teacher preparation program. 
  • Preference made to applicants who demonstrate, in descending order of priority: a graduate of either the Marysville School District or Rainier Beach High School, Financial need. 
  • If no students apply who meet the criteria above, it may be awarded to a student who is a graduate of the Seattle School District and if none apply, it may be awarded to a deserving student studying to become a high school English or Social Studies teacher.
  • One or more multiple-year scholarships, offered annually, not to exceed three consecutive years for any one recipient, to students who will be applying to, or are enrolled in, a degree or certificate in teacher education. 
  • Student(s) must maintain high academic standing and must have proven financial need. 
  • As long as funding is available and the student maintains eligibility, this scholarship is automatically renewable for up to two additional years for full-time students, or until a degree is granted, whichever comes first.
  • Applicants must be admitted to a teacher certification program with at least 70 credits of college course work completed.
  • Applicants must also have a minimum cumulative 3.3 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need (please submit a statement of financial need).
  • Post-Bac and graduate students are eligible.
  • Applicants must be at least a junior in a teacher preparation program the academic year of the award.
  • Applicants must also be a graduate of any Bellingham high school and have a minimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average.
  • Post-Bac students are NOT eligible. 
  • The purpose of this scholarship is to provide support for future teachers in the Woodring College of Education who are enrolled in a degree or certificate program in Education. 
  • Graduate students are eligible.
  • For students seeking a teacher education degree or certificate from Woodring College of Education.  
  • Post-bac and graduate students are eligible.
