Multilingual Education Community Programs
Interested in becoming a teacher specialized in teaching multilingual learners?
WWU Renton offers three initial licensure teacher education programs focused on multilingual education in South King County through our satellite campus located in the PSESD space:
- Bilingual Teaching Fellows: For individuals interested in becoming K-8 elementary teachers.
- Multilingual Special Education: For individuals interested in becoming K-12 special education teachers.
- Master in Teaching: For individuals interested in becoming a middle/high school teachers.
Located at the Puget Sound ESD in Renton, all classes will be held during evening hours during the school year. Candidates will be employed by a partner school district in South King County during the day.
All three above programs are dual certification programs. Candidates become certified their qualifying endorsement: Elementary Ed, Special Ed, or Secondary Education and also graduate with a P-12 English Language Learner (ELL) and/or P-12 Bilingual Education (BE) endorsement.
Additionally, Western offers an Endorsement only option for current, practicing teachers looking to add the P-12 ELL or P-12 Bilingual Education (BE) endorsement to their WA state teaching license.

Transfer Admissions Options
Transfer students who complete transferable associate degrees (DTA-AA), BA, or satisfy WWU’s GUR requirements can meet eligibility requirements and be admitted to Western Washington University for our BAE programs. Meet with our Transfer Student Success Specialist to learn more!
Bachelor of Arts in Education, ELL & Bilingual Education

- Employment as paraeducator throughout program
- Mentorship from application to graduation
- Entry requires completion of a qualifying 2-year transfer degree

- Entry requires completion of baccalaureate degree AND qualifying endorsement coursework (specific to Social Studies or Spanish World Language)

Low Cost Tuition Options
Master in Teaching (MIT)
For MIT Renton students, Western has received a grant that covers the cost of tuition* for the entire program, for our cohort starting Spring ‘25.
The cost of books are currently not included in this grant.
Bachelor of Arts in Education (BAE)
For BAE students interested in the Bilingual Teaching Fellows (BTF) or Bilingual Special Education Program (BeSPED) there are conditional loan scholarship opportunities that cover $8,000 of tuition per year depending on which district you are employed in! Inquire now for more information!
Endorsement Only
For practicing teachers interested in adding the English Language Learner (ELL) and/or Bilingual Education endorsement (BE), Western has received a grant that covers the full cost of tuition for our next two cohorts starting Summer ‘25 and Summer ‘26.
