Applicants must be admitted to a teacher certification program with at least 70 credits of college course work completed. Applicants must also have a minimum cumulative 3.3 GPA and demonstrate financial need (please submit a statement of financial need). Post-Bac students are eligible.

Paul and Joyce Ackley Gillie Scholarship

One or more multiple-year scholarships, offered annually, not to exceed three consecutive years for any one recipient, to students who will be applying to, or are enrolled in, a degree or certificate in teacher education.  Student(s) must maintain high academic standing; and must have proven financial need.  As long as funding is available and the student maintains eligibility, this scholarship is automatically renewable for up to two additional years for full-time students, or until a degree is granted, whichever comes first.

Inspired for Teaching Excellence Scholarship*

Recipients of the Inspired for Teaching Excellence Scholarship possess a passion for making a difference through teaching in P-12 schools and are incoming freshmen from Washington. It is renewed annually until graduation.  Applicants are recruited through the Western Washington University Admissions office.

To provide support for students in Woodring College of Education who will be applying to or are enrolled in a teacher preparation program.  Preference made to applicants who demonstrate, in descending order of priority: a graduate of either the Marysville School District or Rainier Beach High School; Financial need.  If no students apply who meet the criteria above, it may be awarded to a student who is a graduate of the Seattle School District and if none apply, it may be awarded to a deserving student studying to become a high school English or Social Studies teacher.
