Stan received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied postsecondary policy and literacy education. His interest in community college education grew from his experience as a student at Sacramento City College and as adjunct faculty in Bay Area colleges. After graduating, Stan accepted a postdoctoral fellowship at Teachers College/ Columbia University, where he taught courses in postsecondary instruction. Then, over the next four years, he served as an assistant professor in Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Stan is happy to be back on the West Coast, where he is most enthusiastic about Washington colleges and cold-water fishing.
