Woodring Equity & Diversity Committee Scholarship Application Form

The Goal: To support selected students in fields related to education and/or human services who have a commitment to working against systemic social injustices based on ethnicity, race, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, language, socio-economic status, or religion. This goal will help the college reach its mission to attract and retain an increasingly diverse faculty, staff and student population while at the same time diversifying the knowledge, skills, and attitude bases of individual members of the college.

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must be students admitted to one of the Woodring’s programs (on or off-campus)
  • Applicants must answer the following two questions. Each answer should be about 250 words in writing or its equivalent of a 2-3 minute audio recording.  Applicants may choose to answer in another language besides English.
    1. “What insights have you gained through experience(s) with and/or in work against systemic social injustices?"
    2. “What plans do you have for future work against systemic social injustices?”
  • Applicants must provide letters from two individuals (teachers, college faculty, community leaders, or other mentors) that document the work and/or experience of the applicant and discuss the impact this work has had on others.
  • Financial need is required (please submit a statement of financial need).
  • Consideration also may be given to previous academic performance
  • Post-Bac students are eligible.
  • OPTIONAL Applicants may also document current and past activities that demonstrate commitment to working against systemic social injustice based on ethnicity, race, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, language, socio-economic or documentation status, national origin, or religion. Examples include, but are not limited to: membership in a group, participating in events or conferences, class presentations, mentoring, volunteer work, personal experiences, or work experience.

*Award amount and number of scholarships per year is contingent on generosity of contributions

Funds for this scholarship are donated**. Many faculty and staff in the College of Education have pledged payroll deductions at a minimum of $5.00 per pay period. To join us in payroll deduction or to make a one time electronic transfer of funds to the scholarship, follow this link.
