Internship Information - Secondary Education

Internship Sequence

Bellingham Secondary candidates complete one quarter of internship work in the same classroom either Fall or Winter quarter.

  • Fall quarter full time internship: Starts when teachers return to work and ends after 14 full teaching weeks (with students) are completed. That end date will vary by district assignment. In most circumstances, this will be mid-December.  Interns will work full time in the classroom and will follow the school district's calendar and must log at least 450 hours during this quarter.
  • Winter quarter full time internship: Starts when teachers return to work in early January and ends after 14 full teaching weeks (with students) are completed. That end date will vary by district assignment. In most circumstances, this will be mid-April after the district spring break.  Interns will work full time in the classroom and will follow the school district's calendar and must log at least 450 hours during this quarter.

Everett MIT candidates complete two quarters of internship work in the same classroom:

  • Quarter 1--Fall Practicum: Officially starts when the WWU quarter begins.  Interns will spend at least 25 hours in the classroom.  Intern's schedule should be arranged between intern and cooperating teacher.
  • Quarter 2--Winter Full time internship: Starts when teachers return to work in early-January and ends after 14 full teaching weeks (with students) are completed. That end date will vary by district assignment. In most circumstances, this will be mid-April after the district spring break.  Interns will work full time in the classroom and will follow the school district's calendar and must log at least 450 hours during this quarter.
