WWU Graduate Scholarships/Other Funding Sources
The WWU Scholarship Center is available to assist students as they search and apply for scholarships.
Sandy Daffron Scholarship, John & Elizabeth Terrey Community College Scholarship and Ray Romine Memorial Scholarship
There are three quarterly scholarships awards each year, specifically for AHE students who are eligible; they are the Sandy Daffron Scholarship, the John & Elizabeth Terrey Community College Scholarship and the Ray Romine Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship application period opens in mid March each year and closes in mid April. Graduate Tuition Fee Waiver Scholarship
The Graduate School offers a one time quarterly Graduate Tuition Fee Waiver Scholarship to an AHE financial aid student based on need. The AHE faculty recommend students to receive the award based on financial circumstances, so inform the faculty of your situation. The award can provide up to $1000 for one quarter to a new or continuing student.
Graduate Assistantship Position
The Graduate School funds a half-time AHE Graduate Assistantship position that pays the student a quarterly stipend plus includes a partial tuition waiver. The AHE Graduate Assistant works 10 hours per week (which is a half time assistantship position) for the academic year (fall, winter and spring quarters). Each spring quarter (in May) an email is sent out to all program students from the AHE staff announcing the Graduate Assistantship position for the upcoming academic year with instructions on how to apply. Here is more information about Graduate Assistantships. The new GA must attend Graduate School orientation the Monday before classes start in September.
AHE Graduate Workstudy Position
The Center for Student Employment/Financial Aid funds an AHE Graduate Workstudy position that pays $18 per hour. The AHE Graduate Workstudy can work up to 19 hours per week for the academic year (fall, winter and spring quarters). Each spring quarter (in May) an email is sent out to all program students from the AHE staff announcing the Graduate Workstudy position for the upcoming academic year with the criteria for eligibility to apply.
Ross Travel Award for Students
Funds are available to support travel for graduate students to present papers at professional meetings and conferences. Maximum of $500 granted to any single applicant. Four review cycles occur per year; deadlines are October 1, December 15, March 15, and May 15. Refer to the application guidelines and submit a Ross Travel Application esign form.
Non-WWU Graduate Scholarships/Other Funding Sources
AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship
The AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability is awarded annually to a deserving student with disability who is pursuing undergraduate/graduate studies (must at least be a Junior in college) at an accredited university who is pursuing studies related to health and disability, to include, but not limited to public health, health promotion, disability studies, disability research, rehabilitation engineering, audiology, disability policy, special education, and other majors that will impact quality of life of persons with disabilities. Applicants who have not yet graduated from high school will not be considered. Applications are due annually by November 15th.
Steven R. Nelson Native Educator Scholarship Program
This scholarship program strives to increase Native representation in the field of education by providing financial support, mentoring, and internships for Native students in the Northwest who are pursuing a master’s degree in education policy, leadership, technical assistance, research, or a closely related field. We view this program as an opportunity to create long-term partnerships that will improve our ability to meet the needs of Native communities. Applications for the Steven R. Nelson Native Educator Scholarship can be submitted annually from November 30 to March 31. No applications will be considered after the March 31 deadline.
Financial Aid
To apply for financial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
For financial aid purposes, full-time graduate student enrollment is a minimum of 8 credits, half-time is 4 credits and 5-7 credits is three quarters time. The majority of AHE students are part-time students because they are balancing work, family, and other life activities with their graduate school work.
